SOUTH AFRICA HIGHLIGHT & ROVOS RAIL – 16 DAYS
South Africa is a place where you can listen to the roar of lions amongst the whisper of grasslands, while enjoying world-renowned wine and exquisite cuisines. Scenic wonders – from Table Mountain to God’s Window, our mountains, forests, coast lines and deserts. Afro-chic or authentic Africa – always a comfortable place to stay, great food and a big smile. Adventure – from mountain walks to Great White Shark diving. Wildlife – from The Big Five to the small dung beetle and a bird watchers paradise. The ultimate combo of nature, wildlife, culture, adventure, heritage and vibe.
On your arrival (Johannesburg) you will be met by a Kaia Safaris representative and transferred to your pre tour accommodation.
After an early departure from Johannesburg we will make our way to Mpumalanga (place of the rising sun), where we will check into our hotel in the late afternoon. This will be our base for the next few days while exploring the area
Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see Get the cameras ready as we head to Kruger National Park in search for the Big Five (Lion, Cheetah, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo). After a long day in the park we will return to our accommodation.
Today we will explore the area around Hazyview. Strolling around Pelgrimsrest – a small town from years gone by – the first alluvial gold was panned here and you can have a try to see if you have any luck. The rest of afternoon is spend exploring the crystal clear pools of the Bourkes Luck Potholes, the majestic Tree Rondavels and a look through Gods Window over the Lowveld escarpment. We will return to our accommodation to get ready and set of for our night game drive in Kruger Park on open vehicles.
Leaving Mpumalanga behind we head back to Pretoria where we will visit the Voortrekker Monument, Union Buildings (Parliament) and city tour. Tonight, our home will be the Lesedi Cultural village, where you will experience Ethnic hospitality. Guided tour through the cultural village, a typical dinner and then cultural dancing
An early departure from the village and on to Johannesburg for our domestic flight to Port Elizabeth – known as the friendliest city in South Africa. We will arrive in the afternoon and you will have time to explore the city before we check into our accommodation
Today we will leave for the Garden Route, all the way down the east coast of South Africa to Cape Town.
- Stormsriver Bridge will be our first stop. (Garden Route is known for it’s bridges).
- Tsitsikama National Park will be our next stop. A coastal park with absolute beautiful scenery – take a walk on the hangbridge over the Stormsriver or just relax on the rocks.
On our way to Knysna we will also visit the following:
- Big tree. – An 800 year old oak tree.
- Bloukrans Bridge.
- Bloukrans and Stormsriver passes.
Knysna is a small town on the Garden Route … small but very interesting. Artist flog to here for the natural beauty. You will have the day free to explore and relax. There is the optional excursion to the Featherbed reserve – board the boat “old three legs” for a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon into the Knysna Heads, then dock at the Featherbed Nature reserve for lunch. After lunch you will go for a tractor trailer ride to the top of the Knysna Heads and have a stroll back to the boat.
After a good nights rest we leave the coastal area for our inland journey over the Outeniqua Mountains into the semi dessert area of The Klein Karoo, also known as the home of the ostrich.
We will visit the world famous:
- Cango Caves.
- Crocodiles and Cheeta breeding centre.
- A working ostrich farm and an ostrich barbeque for lunch.
A long day as we travel to our last destination.
On our way we will be visiting Swellendam – the third oldest town in South Africa.
A relaxed day as we travel to the wine lands of South Africa for some good wine tasting. Visit Stellenbosch – second oldest town of South Africa.
Also pay a visit to:
- Afrikaans Language monument. *Franschoek.
A full day ahead as we set off for a day tour of the Cape Peninsula.
- Houtbay – boat trip to the seal island.
- Cape Point – where the two oceans (Atlantic and Indian) meet.
- Simonstown – a lot of British history in this little town, which served as a naval base. *Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens.
Early morning start to get the first car up to the top of Table Mountain for magnificent views of the city and Robben Island. Down again for a city tour of the Mother City and then free for the afternoon to shop till you drop at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
Later we will meet again for a farewell dinner and back to the hotel.
You will be transferred to the train station in Cape Town this morning and then enjoy the wonderful two day train journey on the Rovos Rail through the magnificent countryside to Pretoria.
Today we will spend a full day on full day on the Rovos Rail while enjoying the countryside rolling by. We will visit Kimberley and especially the “Big Hole” – South Africa’s biggest open diamond mine. From the station you will take an electric tram to the city centre where you can visit the Big Hole and the local museum.
The train arrives into Capital Park, Pretoria at midday. You will be met at the station and transferred to your post tour accommodation or Johannesburg International Airport.

Since we incur costs in cancelling your arrangements, you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown in the table below (the cancellation charge detailed is calculated on the basis of the total cost payable by the person cancelling, excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges which are not refundable in the event of the person to whom they apply cancelling).

If the reason for your cancellation is covered under the terms of your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim these charges. We will deduct the cancellation charges from any monies you have already paid to us.
